Project Aerial - The Virus

The Aerial Virus. It is a virus unlike any that the world has ever known. It spreads like wildfire, infecting every living thing that absorbs the air that it has infected. It is unknown exactly how this horrific virus was unleashed… many people believe that it occurred due to a natural disaster, hundreds of years ago. However, unbeknownst to most of society today, it was actually caused by warring nations, their spore filled bombs getting out of hand and infecting the world with their deadly diseases. It is unknown exactly WHO was fighting all those years ago, or why, but whoever it was… they changed the course of history forever.

The virus itself is a very complicated little monster. It constantly falls from the sky, manifesting itself within tiny spores. The virus is airborne, obviously, and can only be contracted through breathing it in or entering through an open wound. There have been told of other ways of contracting the disease, but these are all just unproven rumors at this point in time. The Aerial Virus usually claims its victims within a months time, if not earlier. Very few cases have lived longer than this allotted time span. It slowly kills the victim from the inside out, starting with the lungs. The diseased individual will show signs of being infected quite early, a few of the starting symptoms being violent coughing fits, gasping for air, and coughing up blood. As it progresses, the victim starts to lose some of their basic limb functions along with a few other things; exhibiting frailness, constant trembling, fainting spells, extremely pale skin, and redness of the sclera (whites of the eyes). The final stages of the disease are the most horrible. The causality will usually start to self mutilate themselves due to them slowly losing their sanity and basic grip on reality. A person can actually witness exactly when said victim enters this stage as well, because the victim will lose all color in their hair and eyes. The final result of the disease is usually one of two things. They either die a natural death, their bodies succumbing to the poisons rushing through their veins… OR they go on a mad killing spree, killing all those around them, including strangers and people they are close too, killing themselves in the end. It really depends on how stable their mental condition is in the end, but the latter is what usually ends up happening.

It is recommended that all individuals wear gas masks at ALL times, unless you are in a protected area that is spore free. However, the spore does not react in the rain, so it is safe to take off your mask during that time period. Safe places to stay at include caves, covered buildings, subway systems, sewers, and underwater laboratories. Really any place that is underground is a safe place. Just as long as it is away from the poisonous air above. Deserts are a place to be avoided, along with any other very open areas. No cure has been found for this disease as of yet, but what is left of the populace is trying their very best to find one, getting to the point of desperation.
